Grooming Others to Follow in Your Footsteps
Darren Mueller, Branch Manager, ADI, Milwaukee

I found Ron Davis’s October “What’s the Big Idea” column (see “Molding Tomorrow’s Leaders) to be very insightful. I found it so much so that I passed it along for some of my colleagues to review.
In my opinion, the article presented some very worthwhile points. We all discuss these types of things regularly, but every once and awhile its’ great to see them written down in black and white.
The quote I liked the most was the following:
“If the goals are set and established, agreed upon by all parties and implemented — in other words, you manage by objectives and you set benchmarks for the accomplishments of those objectives — by definition you are a good manager, trainer and executive.
Replacing yourself is not the most important function in running a business; frankly, it’s the only function.
